Brian MacNeelABOUT THE SPEAKER...
Brian MacNeel was born in Virginia and raised in Florida. In June 1982, Brian entered the US Army. He was an honor graduate out of Basic Training. He continued his honor graduate status throughout Advanced Individual Training, Airborne School and Ranger leadership training to become a Medic in the 2nd/75th Ranger Battalion Recon Platoon. He was an instructor in Ranger School in hand to hand combat and later served as the combat medic and bodyguard for the commanding general of the renowned 82nd Airborne Division. Brian cheated death in a near fatal parachute accident in a training exercise on August 26, 1986. After 2-1/2 years of hospitalization and intensive rehabilitation he found his Army career come to an abrupt end. He was medically retired from the Army in 1989.

Brian entered the University of Florida while completing the last phase of his physical therapy at Gainesville’s V.A. Medical Center. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Minor in Business Administration.

Brian's engaging personality has raised Brian to an accelerated level in teaching Crime Prevention. He has become a Crime Prevention Practitioner after attending the Florida Crime Prevention Training Institute under the auspices of the Officer of the Florida Attorney General.

Brian has spoken to hundreds of groups over his 11 years Crime Prevention career. He has now successfully transformed the stereotypical "boring" Crime Prevention Program into an entertaining & educational experience.

SAVE THE DATE FOR OCTOBER

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay  "Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay"
Bridging the Bay to help children in Seven Counties
Presented by Dexter Lewis,
Director of Partnerships with
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay

Our mission is to provide children facing adversity, with one on one professionally supported mentoring to make their lives better forever.

Bridging the BayWe're Bridging the Bay to help children in seven counties.

Two main programs. We have a Site-Based and Community-Based program.

Our Site-Based program is when the mentor goes into the school (i.e. Shaw Elementary or Mort Elementary) and tutors a child for one hour a week. The duration of the match is 4 hours a month and for one year.

Our Community-Based program is when the mentor takes the child away from their home and does different activities with them . We have partnerships with the Rays, Beef O'Bradys, and the YMCA to name a few. Our BIGS and LITTLE’S never have a shortage of activities to do. Our community based program is rooted in teaching kids life skills. You can teach them how to count exact change at the grocery store, take them to the beach, to the park. The most important thing is to be their friend, to be a listening ear to talk about their problems and impart your wisdom on them so they can see a brighter future for themselves.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED...
Here is even more information about how the North Tampa Chamber can partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

I wanted to give you more information about our Bowl For Kids Sake, fundraising opportunity. This is a great way for organizations and corporations in the Tampa Bay community to get involved with our organization. This is a great way to help raise critical dollars to support our mentoring programs as well as continue to change the lives of the youth we serve. The North Tamp Chamber can potentially form a bowling team and encourage donations from family and friends as well. If each person raises $ 50 we invite you all to bowl with us at one of the locations. At the bowling event, you would get to know some of the kids that we mentor and have a great time. You can register at www.BBBSTampaBay.org or call at 813-769-3634.

We also have our Big Brothers Big Sisters license plate voucher fundraising opportunity, those can be purchased at http://www.bbbsflorida.org.

Dexter LewisABOUT THE SPEAKER...
My name is Dexter Lewis, I will be the speaker this day. I am the Director of Partnerships with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I grew up in Tampa, I graduated from Blake High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of South Florida. I also have two years music theater training, from the Boston Conservatory.

I wanted to join Big Brothers Big Sisters because I was a part of a community choir, called the Inner City Boys Choir from the age of 5-12. My Gwen started this choir to give boys an environment to express ourselves through the arts. At the same time she exposed us to college campuses throughout the state and held us accountable for our grades and told us we could succeed in life. She poured into my life, and that is what I hope.

Power Networking:

Power NetworkingPower Networking Luncheon
Power Networking is a very powerful relationship building event. This is a unique opportunity to join dozens of Professionals for one-on-one networking with many other business people in the North Tampa area.

Would you like to meet a month's worth of professional new contacts over lunch? Do you have a service or product that the world MUST hear about? Is your company the best thing since sliced bread? Build new business relationships! Create electric momentum for your business! This is "speed networking" with a twist.

This most effective One-of-a-Kind networking format is as follows. There will be 4 people seated at a table. Each person at the table has the opportunity to tell everyone else at the table about their business or organization. After everyone has spoken at that table then 3 of the 4 people go to a different table and repeat the process. Timers are used to make sure that everyone has equal time to speak and has a chance to go to all tables.

What makes our system better than most is that we provide a different icebreaker (question/topic) to be incorporated into your discussion at each table. We also attempt to have people change tables in a way that they will be speaking to different people each time. The object is to talk to everyone in the room one-on-one and have the opportunity to build business relationships rather than just pass out business cards or do your 30 second elevator speech.

Some Advantages of this format:

  • One-on-One Networking with Everyone in the Room!
  • Build New Business Relationships!
  • Create Electric Momentum for Your Business!
  • Meet and greet in a better, faster, easier way!
  • Leave your 20 second elevator speech at the door!
  • Ice breakers will be provided to give this networking event a twist that will keep everyone interested!
  • Take your networking to a new level!
  • Create dozens of new contacts!
  • Fun, Energizing, Motivating!

Power Networking is a Professional Networking Event that will motivate, energize and leave you with dozens of new contacts. This event is held intermittently throughout the year. Watch your emails and visit this page to find out when the next one will be scheduled.

UPCOMING POWER NETWORKING EVENTS:

Note: There are no Power Networking events scheduled at this time.

Check your emails and this website for more information as it becomes available.
